When I was tasked to complete this during my coaching certification program, I was like UGGGHHH! It's hard to get started. However, I learned when you ask yourself some simple and specific questions it can narrow things down to really feel like you hit the nail on the head!
I think most of us get confused about the difference between a MISSION statement and VISION statement too. I thought this would be helpful, as it was for me.
The main differences between a mission statement and a vision statement are:
Mission statements describe the current purpose a company serves. The company’s function, target audience, and key offerings are elements that are often mentioned in a mission statement.
Vision statements are a look into a company’s future or what its overarching vision is. The same elements from the mission statement can be included in a vision statement, but they’ll be described in the future tense.
When I wrote mine, I decided to combine BOTH into one. Some would argue that they should be ONE short succinct sentence. Others say 2-3 sentences. I say, do whatever the heck you want to do to convey YOUR BUSINESS!!
Here's mine
I understand that reproductive issues, fertility challenges, and inadequate nutrition can take a toll on women's mental and physical health. With my coaching, I'm dedicated to providing personalized approaches to help women in their journey towards recovery and a healthier lifestyle. My goal is to educate and empower women to take control of their health and wellbeing. I help you make informed decisions about your nutrition and lifestyle choices to improve your chances of recovery.
I state what I do, mention target audience, and offers. How I can help. And in so doing, where my clients will be empowered to make their choices ON THEIR OWN as they look to their future healthy, happy life!
My program used something similar to what Forbes explains here.
